Representative matters include medical malpractice defense, Section 1983 claims, hospital credentialing investigations, board of medicine matters, products liability, intellectual property, and other civil trial work.Examples of recent cases include:Successfully argued a Motion to Strike at the close of the plaintiff’s evidence in a medical malpractice case resolving the case in favor of the defendant obstetricians;Earned a defense verdict for our defendant neurosurgeon following a five day jury trial involving claimed spinal cord compression and resulting neurologic deficits;Prevailed in a four day jury trial defending a physician assistant against claims his wound care debridement techniques caused fat necrosis in the plaintiff;Obtained a defense verdict for our defendant maternal fetal medicine specialist in a case where the plaintiff claimed permanent bladder injuries following a cervical cerclage procedure;Defense of an internal medicine doctor in a case about whether a prescription for an ACE inhibitor was appropriate in view of the plaintiff's history of allergies and breathing problems. The case was tried over four days and the jury returned a defense verdict;Defense of OB/GYN doctors in suits alleging negligence caused: a mother’s injuries during birth, bowel perforations during hysterectomies, and injuries to newborns;Defense of numerous ER doctors on claims related to failures to diagnose appendicitis, infectious processes, stroke and/or pulmonary emboli;Defense of cardiologists in cases involving the use of an improperly sized stent and ischemic complications during peripheral vascular procedures;Defense of multiple orthopedic surgeons on claims alleging negligence during spinal fusion and internal fixation surgeries;Briefing and oral argument before the Virginia Supreme Court; andNumerous successful 12(b)(6) motions, Rule 56 motions, and arguments on brief before the 4th Circuit defending against section 1983 claims.
