I have delivered the Garage Refurbishment Project since 2016, considerably improving the security and aesthetics of hundreds of garages for a total cost of over £1.23m, increasing the lettings figures for those sites from c. 50% to 99%, and subsequently company revenue through increased rental income. Across the same period I have overseen the allocation of budget for Colchester Borough Homes' estate improvement work, improving areas both visually and addressing issues of concern relating to public safety, such as the removal of dangerous brick walls. Studying part-time for a BSc Building Surveying degree at Anglia Ruskin. To graduate from the five-year part-time course in July 2022.

In addition, we ensured that renewable technologies were installed into as many of our homes as possible. A project funded by partners (Norse Energy, Gibson Jones Investments and Levantera) with no capital outlay from Colchester Borough Council or Colchester Borough Homes. I managed a dedicated team of 5, comprised of fixed-term and agency staff. As such I had a high level of involvement in their continued development within the role and worked to ensure I coordinated their roles to the individual needs of the investors. My role involved a high-level of statistical reporting and placed a strong emphasis on time-management. I was responsible for developing the framework and structure within which the team worked and sought to constantly improve it where possible.

I was responsible for two of the three principal contractors for the 2013/14 programme and arranging their surveys, attending to gain tenant opinion and colour choices where appropriate and offering a point of contact throughout the process. Worsnop House is a sheltered housing scheme in Colchester. Between 2013 and 2015, Colchester Borough Homes undertook a £4m refurbishment project to bring the building up to current standards. The residents remained on site for the duration, but were moved to different flats as the work progressed. This meant splitting my time between the Housing Investment Programme and offering a wide range of support to the residents and contractors at Worsnop House. I was also periodically involved with the Project Team. In 2013, I was involved in preliminary surveys for improvements to garage sites around the borough, and investigations into the need for fire walls in multiple properties. Similar, but smaller projects also included works to the fire doors in some of our temporary accommodation units, as well as arranging custodians of communal paint on behalf of one of our contractors. The role required that I attend many training courses, and I have been a Designated Safeguarding Officer since June 2013. Courses I attended and have certifications for include: Drug Use & Legal Highs, NEEDAS Needlestick & Blood Born Viruses Training, Emergency First Aid At Work, IOSH Working Safely, Report Writing Training and Designated Safeguarding Level 3.

I was also the team’s Direct Debit and statistics champion, where I assisted the team leaders in monthly reporting on team performance and produced reports and graphs for senior management’s attention. As the sole approver of Direct Debits within the office all requests were initially directed to me to either administer or delegate to another trained member of staff, and to offer assistance where needed. The team have group and personal targets, primarily to keep the telephone call average wait time below 25 seconds and the abandonment rate as low as possible. This placed a focus on time-management to ensure that each query is afforded the appropriate amount of care and attention whilst managing the immediate against the administrative workload that I was responsible for. I believe I show particular strength in this area, having consistently appeared in the top three call-takers, whilst maintaining an average call length that demonstrates that each query was afforded adequate time. The communication received was almost exclusively via telephone and email, although the role also involved face-to-face contact with tenants/leaseholders and contractors in the form of working on the front counter at the Greenstead Local Housing Office or the company’s desk at Angel Court. With this experience, alongside that gained from similar previous roles, I believe I am a strong communicator and enjoy assisting others and responding to the wide variety of queries that frequently arise.

My primary responsibility concerned physical stock-counting, investigating and confirming variances with the store management and helping compile the completion report, from which the final result is generated. Unfortunately due to company-wide redundancies my time in this role was prematurely curtailed but I still feel I was able to contribute greatly to the team and company as a whole. Show less

Despite becoming my primary workload, I continued to have responsibility for my role within the Sony and latterly the John Lewis accounts, placing great focus on my own time-management. The Kodak account brief was to aid the process of their vast loss-reducing DOA business through developing a framework for customer contact, establishing logistics for the transportation of the items and the creation of accurate reporting for constant liaison with senior Kodak staff. Across this period I acted as the sole auditor of incoming items, through to formulating the basis of a four-man warehouse team to conduct the same role, in line with the rapid expansion of this business. Furthermore, the account demanded the use of existing company accounts with DHL and contacts within that framework to establish a network of regular collections of DOA items (around one thousand items per week). Additionally the development of in-house reporting on the process grew to personally liaising directly with Kodak in an attempt to improve their own processes, based upon my own experiences. From this I greatly furthered my understanding of that necessary administrative role, whilst gaining key experience in auditing items and the physical requirements of a warehouse environment to utilize minimal space as best as possible.

I was appointed Team Leader in December 2008 before being promoted to a role within the administration department for the company’s Sony account in December 2009. It was within this role I obtained considerable experience in large account administration; working as part of a five-man team, responsible for the management and quality control of a large off-site call centre, providing the crucial link between Sony themselves, their customers, our on-site engineers and Teleplan’s own hierarchy. The role demanded strong verbal and written communication skills and an ability to continually improvise to ensure full customer satisfaction.

The unifying factor across the vast number of companies I represented was a paramount importance on customer service in written and verbal form, an area in which I was able to excel, with direct personal positive feedback from customers and clients. Success with quickly adapting to the multiple accounts, strong customer service skills and eagerness to maintain standards were reflected in my increased responsibility across the period of my employment. Initially employed for one month as temporary staff, I was recruited for the remainder of my gap year period, and encouraged to continue in a part-time capacity during my university studies, which I accepted for a further two years. In that time, I was one of only two staff key-holders for one section of the premises, and trusted with the alarm codes and lock-up procedure for late Wednesday and Sunday closing. Show less
