    • Children’s Director
      • Feb 2015 - Apr 2016

16 young actors were involved in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at any one time. This team of performers was further split into three performing teams and four boys playing Charlie who all worked on rotation. The children were contracted for six months at a time after which another group of young actors would join the production. As Children’s Director for the West End production, I was responsible for managing and maintaining the performances of the young actors in the show, helping them to discover the detail in the piece and ensuring their interpretation and delivery was aligned both to Sam Mendes’ original directorial vision and Roald Dahl’s story. My responsibilities included: • working closely with the Resident Director, interpreting her show notes and communicating those clearly to the children and other teams as required; • acting as the contact between the adult cast and the teams of children, ensuring that any feedback or comment from the adult cast was delivered to the young performers in a consistent, constructive and positive manner; • teaching the show from scratch to new child company members during recast periods. • working collaboratively with senior creatives and producers during child recast periods; • leading on-stage technical rehearsals with the children while the Resident Director was busy with new adult actors. This also meant I had the opportunity to take the lead with various stage and technical departments; • working with the Dance Captain to lead “come back” rehearsals for the teams of children twice a week throughout their six-month contract in order to keep the work fresh, exciting and truthful; • communicating any issues or concerns to the Resident Director and/or Associate Director; • setting clear boundaries and expectations for the children performing and working; • delivering and supporting any necessary disciplinary action for the children in collaboration with chaperones. Managed a team of staff as supervisor, delegated roles and responsibilities, and led drills and safety procedures to ensure that patrons were safe and cared for throughout the duration of their experience at the theatre. As Theatre Host I was responsible for the foyer of Drury Lane and to ensure that each patron’s first point of contact was a high- quality and welcoming experience. I would greet any VIP guests and help to manage the flow of all patrons into the designated theatre areas. As Access Host I would assist patrons with additional needs and their families with any access requirements and remain their point of contact for the entire show. Show less

      • Aug 2013 - Feb 2014

In 2014 I worked as Choreographer on the UK Premiere of Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Putting It Together’ with Alex Parker (Musical Director and Producer) and Alastair Knights (Director). Janie Dee, David Bedella, Damian Humbley, Caroline Sheen and Daniel Crossley made up our cast. After 2 weeks rehearsal we ran for 4 performances at the GLive Studio in Guildford. Following this initial run, we had the opportunity to further refine our work as Robert Mackintosh transferred our production to the St James Theatre (now the Other Palace) for a 4-week limited engagement. Sir Cameron Mackintosh also advised on our run at St James. The show was the Theatre’s biggest commercial success at that point, critically well-received with a 5-star review from ‘The Times’. Following the St James run, Alex, Alastair and I accompanied Sir Cameron at meetings with various investors and high-end artists such as Bernadette Peters in anticipation of a further run in London’s West End.
