These developers don’t run businesses and can easily misunderstand what’s being asked of them. The business people buying the systems are generally very good at what they do but don’t really understand how their business breaks down into data and how that data can be structured in an ERP system to make their business more efficient and robust. They are generally either suspicious of IT or believe it to be magic and capable of anything. Having been deeply involved in commissioning, implementing and running such systems whilst at the same time fulfilling a role that was both MD and FD in a rapidly growing SME, I understand both sides of this see saw. The service I offer is to help businesses implement these systems by - Examining their processes in detail and suggesting ways in which they can become more efficient - Identify how those processes will work in the system so that the system facilitates the process and doesn’t dictate it - Guide the business in scoping out their new system so it is clear as possible for the developers to build what they want and need - Tidy and order the business’s data so that it can be imported into the new system and work for the business in future. - Work between the business and the developers to make sure the business gets the best system possible within the constraints of the technology - And, as part of this methodology, identify and report to senior management, those areas of the business (processes, structures, behaviours) that are hindering the smooth running of the operation Show less
