My son has been fortunate enough to be coached by Matt Parker in Lacrosse and Cross Country at Newtown Friends School. In addition to coaching the team in skills building, sportsmanship and dedication, Matt is a mentor to his players. He takes that role very seriously. He wants his players to enjoy a healthy level of competition, desire to succeed and be the best they can be ... at the same time, Matt always encourages new "recruits" and expects the experienced players to mentor younger ones. Don't be fooled by his mild manner ... Matt loves a good win as much as the next guy!

Matt exemplifies the true spirit of the school: super smart, yet non-assuming, respectful of others, adults and kids alike, and very competent and dedicated to make the students as good as they can be. As a cross-country coach, Matt was motivating, positive, understanding and responsible. He balanced teamwork with the individual needs of the students and always kept the parents informed. Matt is an integral part of Newtown Friends School, and I am confident he will be a tremendous asset in any capacity he may seek to pursue.
