Product Manager

This was an all encompassing role which covered editorial management through to marketing and events. It was my responsibility to keep the authors, talent management, literary agents, event partners and retailers happy, while increasing sales and visibility of Omnibus Press products. While at Omnibus Press I organised successful book tours that integrated musical performances, blurring the lines between book event and concert, for Robert Forster (The Go-Betweens and recipient of Mojo and Uncut's book of the year 2017), Sylvain Sylvain (The New York Dolls) and Jake Shears (Scissor Sisters) at venues across the UK with Waterstones, Monorail Glasgow, Rough Trade, and other independents. I oversaw book and PR tours for Jimmy Webb (Later... with Jools Holland, interview and front page quote in Mojo, national and local radio, book events at Waterstones) and Pamela Des Barres (events at The Angel and MOVI, national and local radio, long form interview in the Independent) including organising travel, hotels and certificates of sponsorship for their time in the UK As part of the team I analysed and fed back on book proposals, considering the pitches as both a lover of music and considering their commerciality as a bookseller. Worked on book covers with the editorial team, researching pictures, briefing designers and recommending changes to maximise the commercial appeal of the books. I maintained the social media accounts, doubling the number of Twitter users and earning us a Klout score of 59, extending Omnibus's visibility to Instagram. I managed the relationship between Omnibus Press and Thurston Moore (Sonic Youth) and Eva Prinz's publishing house Ecstatic Peace Library, with their compendium of Ripped & Torn coming second in Rough Trade's books of the year list. I wrote copy and briefed the Omnibus Press catalogue & AI sheets and commissioned POS and event marketing materials. I also managed the look and focus for the Omnibus Press stand at London Book Fair. Publisher Liaison Manager
-
Jan 2012 - Oct 2016
While at Waterstones I ran the front of store at Liverpool 1, ensuring merchandising standards were kept to the highest level, that key titles were visible and in stock, windows were appropriately stocked and that books were creatively displayed. I left Liverpool 1 to join the publisher liaison team. This was a role created by James Daunt to help publishers adjust to the changes made by the company following the takeover by Alexander Mamut with the key responsibility of managing relationships with Bloomsbury, Pan Macmillan, the IPG, Diamond and Titan, among others. The role necessitated interacting with key account managers and members of the publishers from all levels to foster a positive working relationship between both parties through changes to buying practices, terms changes, amendments to returns and more. Part of my role was independent publisher co-ordinator, the first point of contact for any publisher looking to set up a trading relationship with Waterstones, through which I helped organise supply chains, terms, and defined best practices. I have worked closely with Bloomsbury on maximising the potential of Harry Potter Day at Waterstones, Pan Macmillan on increasing visibility of their Alice in Wonderland intellectual property with their 150th anniversary celebrations and hosted roadshows and author evenings for Bloomsbury, Diamond and Pan Macmillan, featuring authors such as Neil Gaiman, Cathy Rentzenbrink, Paul Morley, Chris Riddell and Liza Klaussman. Working closely with the Waterstones business team I have successfully lead terms negotiations and overseen any changes to the business relationship as a result. I have represented Waterstones at IPG conferences and London Book Fair. Show less
