  I work in the corporate communications team at the Australian Housing and Urban Research Institute (AHURI) as Writer/Analyst. This was a new position created to increase the profile, usability and use of AHURI supported research by a range of stakeholders. At AHURI I analyse complex and extensive research on housing, homelessness and related urban issues and transform it into engaging articles for web publication. As an example, I wrote the Evidence Review series (now replaced by AHURI's online web articles) which was published fortnightly on the web. The Evidence Reviews became a central part of AHURI’s communication and PR strategy to its key Federal and State and Territory government stakeholders, as well as inspiring stories in mainstream media.   I am a professional writer and videomaker with over 30 years experience as a writer and producer of documentary, drama, educational and corporate programs. I have extensive experience working on fast turn-around programs and am able to work very effectively under pressure. Some of my career highlights (apart from the ones detailed elsewhere) include three years producing documentaries for the ABC Natural History Unit; three years as staff script editor/writer for the television show, 'The Flying Doctors'; two years directing and writing the ABC weekly satirical puppet show, 'Rubbery Figures'; and being co-director/ cinematographer for a year long, observational documentary, 'The Syren’s Song', made for SBS television. I have also written, produced, and directed many corporate communications for a diverse range of clients, from large national business to universities. As an integral part of all these documentary projects, I have interviewed people on-camera from many different walks of life—from business CEOs to school students, from chefs to scientists. I have thorough video administration skills; including maintaining accurate documentation such as release forms, cataloguing information and copyright details. I have very strong video cinematography skills, and own and operate a professional 4K HD video camera (Sony FS700 with external Atomos video field recorder), sound kit and lighting kit. I worked professionally in the post-production field for many years and have excellent video editing skills. I own and operate my own computer editing suite using Adobe Premiere Pro CS6, Avid Symphony 6 and Final Cut Pro.   As Science Writer for Forest and Wood Products Australia (FWPA), I write and produce media content to inform government, encourage the wood products industry and engage the community about the outcomes of new research and development. FWPA is a joint Federal Government/timber industry not-for-profit company that funds and disseminates high quality research into Australian forestry and wood products. The stories, abstracts and reports that I produce are delivered electronically by the FWPA website, newsletters and email or as printed material such as articles in industry magazines and annual reports. Due to my extensive and solid background in creative media and communications FWPA also took the opportunity to use my skills beyond the scope of their original Science Writer position. I have successfully introduced innovations such as video interviews of the scientists explaining the key highlights and implications of their research, video packages of FWPA’s national R&D seminars and video recording of experiments.
