Substitute Teacher & Math Interventionist
-
Aug 2020 - Present
As a substitute teacher starting from August 2020, I execute lesson plans, review student assignments and efforts, and encourage collaborative study in classes at any grade level, school building, and subject for the entire school day. As a math interventionist from March 2021 - May 2021, I accepted an excellent position at Maple Grove Elementary to counsel students one-on-one or in a small group with difficult mathematics concepts. My effort was often in service of re-acclimating students, grades 3-5, back into in-person school where they may have otherwise missed crucial online instruction. Show less

English Tutor
-
Jul 2019 - Oct 2020
A reading and writing tutor at Dyslexia Saint Louis working with elementary and middle school aged children who have reading and writing difficulties on a one-to-one basis. DSL uses various resources such as Barton Reading and Spelling Systems and Kilpatrick Equipped for Reading Success, among others. For students who require explicit instruction outside of the typical classroom experience, English can seem incomprehensible and arbitrary, but with crucial spelling rules, visualized word construction, and other techniques, English can finally be understood, comprehended, and appreciated. Children learn phonics explicitly, an area of English which is too often neglected in the classroom, and memorize words only when necessary. Later in elementary school when children are expected to read in order to learn, turning to DSL can provide all of the necessary tools needed for learning to read. Show less
