As president of the union Matt held great responsibilities in his role. The pressures and the strains of being the head of an organisation with such a varied member base and servicing the students as both customers for our commercial activities, representing them as students, supporting their needs whilst leading and developing the union is a hard enough job for the best of executives. For a young person to do this and to do it so well is something that I look back on as being exceptionally admirable. Matts greatest strengths were his ability to lead, his understanding of issues and his ability to act decisively on them. The union needed a president that could stabilise it's finances and improve upon it's activities, Matt achieved this and often made the unpopular decisions when required that were better for the organisation in the future. As a colleague he challenged me to think about what I am doing and why I am doing it, to question and not to just accept. I have taken a great deal from working Matt and if the chance arose to do so again, I would.
