Team leader within Hospitality and Events at AFC Bournemouth
-
Nov 2015 - Present
The majority of the time I assist within the hospitality section on match days for Premier League organisation 'AFC Bournemouth', undertaking a variety of different job roles and responsibilities. I've been responsible for looking after VIP guests in the hospitality boxes to ensure they experience a premium service as well as cater for the masses in the main restaurant. For the last two years I have been trusted to take on a team leader role, operating a busy pass area and directing where different meals should be delivered. This has taught me valuable leaderships skills and how to co-operate with team members so that clear instructions are provided and a high level of service is maintained. Outside of match days I've been called upon to help with private functions and conferences the venue hosts, again providing adequate service to ensure clients are satisfied and the reputation of the organisation is upheld. I have continued to observe food preparation at a number of functions, again overseeing a team of food runners and communicating the meals different guests have ordered. Show less

Leisure Attendant
-
Jul 2019 - Oct 2019
As a leisure attendant I was responsible for checking-in members and hotel residents into the hotel’s leisure facilities. I undertook a professional routine to ensure that all entrants were eligible and provided adequate proof of their membership to prevent any unauthorised users from entering. I was also expected to take numerous phone calls from customers and deal with various enquiries surrounding membership, club rules and general queries from other departments within the hotel. During all shifts I was required to maintain the club’s high levels of cleanliness in both the indoor and outdoor areas whilst also ensuring that health and safety standards were maintained in all poolside and dry side areas. The lengthy opening hours of the club allowed me to show my flexibility to work a variety of different shift patterns and required me to demonstrate lone working when opening and closing the club. I was entrusted with a high level of responsibility as the pool areas involved working closely with different chemicals and regularly carrying out water quality tests. These tests were recorded onto daily checklist sheets, which had to be completed accurately and signed off upon completion. Unfortunately this employment was cut short due to the club’s closure late in 2019 as per a business decision. Show less

Aug 2017 - Jul 2018
For my university placement year I worked as part of a team in a sports club attached to private boarding school and took on a variety of different job roles. Primarily the role of me and one other was to produce marketing documentation that would attract business for different activities including: holiday clubs, swimming lessons and fitness classes. These posters were displayed throughout the centre and were also added to the social media pages to help promote sales. As I progressed through this role I also took responsibility for things like membership enquiries, swimming lesson payments and pool party bookings and was often asked to communicate with clients over the phone. Alongside my marketing role I also spent a large proportion of my time in a lifeguard role and would communicate professional with members using the facilities. I was responsible for members safety when in the pool as well as ensuring the facilities were cleaned to a high standard. Furthermore, I was entrusted with teaching a number of different swimming groups that catered for swimmers of all ability levels. I devised different lessons plans and taught swimming to a number of different clientele including: privately pre-paid lessons, mandatory PE swimming lessons, Pre-School lessons and external primary school lessons. I was frequently asked to facilitate these lessons as my manager placed a great level of trust in me. Alongside these two roles, I was also able to showcase my ability to be flexible and respond quickly to different circumstances. There were various points during the year where swimming lessons and life guarding shifts required cover and a number of times I was able to cover. Additionally, during school holidays I was given time off but often chose to work extra shifts as I worked within a positive working environment. Show less

Social Secretary
-
Sep 2016 - Jul 2017
During my first year I was a very active part of the university swimming, not just through the two annual 'BUCS' (British Universities and Colleges Sport) competitions in Sheffield I attended and swum in, but also because of my involvement in assisting the society become what Bournemouth deem a '5* Society'. To achieve this accolade I helped with various volunteering and community based activities, including: beach cleans, Christmas charity gift wrapping and cake sales. Now in my second year, I have been elected onto to the club’s committee as the social secretary, meaning I'm responsible for the welfare of the participants within the society, meaning I must regularly organise social events where team building can take place. PAL Leader (Peer Assisted Learning)
-
Sep 2016 - Jul 2017
I've recently undertaken this paid position within the university. My main role is to facilitate the learning of first year students on the same course as me, allowing me to help provide an insight into the course from a more personal level in comparison to lecturers. Through this role, I already feel as if it's helped me gain confidence in terms of the way I communicate with others on an academic level. I listen to the needs of the group and use this to help my plan my allocated sessions each week. Show less

Rugby Tournament Assistant
-
May 2016 - May 2017
In this role, me and a couple of other sports students were in charge of overseeing all the results for the various rugby cup competitions at the annual 'Bournemouth 7s' festival. Results would be brought via the match referees and we would then need to log them all and publish them for the participants to see. Throughout the day we would also have to work out which teams would be progressing to the latter stages of each competition, meaning the work had to be completed within a strict time window. In total there were over 100 teams playing across 8 different pitches, all of whom had to be accounted for on both days of competition. This for me, was valuable experience in terms of learning how large scale events are run and managed. It taught me transferable skills, particularly communication based skills, which will be of use to me within my degree. At the end of the weekend, the team leader praised our work ethic, saying he would be happy for the same team of workers to accompany him when the festival is repeated in May 2017. I then undertook the same role in 2017 where the rugby event again ran smoothly and I was grateful to obtain greater experience. Show less

During the first week of the academic year (freshers week) my role was to act as a point of contact to new students who had queries regarding the university experience. Throughout the week I had an electronic work rota which portrayed all the different job roles I would undertake, ranging from helping new students move into halls of residence to assisting with the setting up of the yearly 'freshers fair' on campus. Prior to freshers, I participated in training days which highlighted important topic areas which required extra care e.g. engaging with international students who are likely to be unfamiliar with Bournemouth. May 2015 - Sep 2015
After becoming a qualified lifeguard I was able to obtain a place within Holiday Inn's leisure department which is open to both hotel residents as well as paying members. My main role was to look after both the gym and pool area, ensuring it is a clean and safe environment for people to enjoy their leisure activities. I was responsible for completing a number of statutory daily duties including opening and closing the club, testing the pool and spa water clarity and chlorine levels, regular hourly checks on stock levels in the gym and changing area, checking and signing off deliveries and topping up pool chemical supplies' - all of which require a high level of responsibility as dangerous chemicals are used in large quantities. Additionally, completion of the club's banking on a daily basis and reconciling large amounts of money / credit card payments were tasks I was held responsible for when working on solo evening shifts.
