This involved supporting a Junior (16-18 years) Football first team in a high performing college, using workshops to help educate them with regards to the mental side of their performances. This included how to perform under pressure, recognising the importance of emotional control and what the physiological signs of pre-performance anxiety are. Individual support was also offered to athletes who wish to focus on specific areas of their performance. In addition, I worked alongside the head coach and fellow support staff (e.g. physiotherapist, strength & conditioning coach) to discuss the best practice for helping the athletes develop and perform to their maximum potential.

      • Nov 2011 - Apr 2012

During my under-graduate placement, I completed a 6 month period of work for a professional football club academy. This involved producing inspirational-motivational DVDs for a number of U18s players, with the view to improving their confidence as a result. After gaining match footage from the academy, videos were then coded using Sportscode Gamebreaker, selecting positive aspects of player performance. All the clips of positive performance were then grouped together with photos, inspirational quotes, and a self-selected piece of music, creating a personal movie for the individual to use. Post-intervention interviews were also used to assess the effectiveness of the DVDs.
