    • Chief of Department
      • Apr 2014 - Present

I began my fire service career March of 1986 and went from being a rookie climbing the ladder and having held every position in the department. When I was at the rank of Deputy Chief I eventually was recruited to go full time with the department holding the position of Deputy Chief and Fire Inspector and finally to my current position of Chief and Emergency Management Director. I have 12 1/2 years experience as an inspector and investigator and head of safety compliance and risk management for the Town. In June of 2015, I was tasked with merging what was formerly Amherst EMS and Amherst Fire Department (separate agencies) into one department which became Amherst Fire Rescue. This has been done successfully with the assistance of the Deputy Chief of the Department and most importantly the Captain of Fire & EMS Operations. The single department responds to over 1400 calls per year and has the responsibility of managing a 1.5 million dollar budget. Between our part time employees that allow us to provide 24/7 ALS response for Emergency Medical Services and our paid on call firefighters we are managing 100 personnel and a fleet that includes two Type 1 Ambulances, four Class A Pumpers, 110' Tower Truck, 3000 gallon Tanker / Pumper and two Forestry vehicles and administrative / emergency response vehicles. January of 2005 is when I started my full time position with the department where my rank at the time was a Deputy Chief which continued and now included the added title of Fire Inspector. During this time I was responsible for assisting with managing fire department operations and heading up the departments fire prevention program and code compliance. I was responsible for the applicable codes that covered the NH State Fire Code and the adopted NFPA Codes and Standards. Additionally, I was given the task of heading up safety compliance and risk management for the Town, which I continue doing so today. Show less

I started out as an assistant manager in 1982 and eventually became the manager of the Amherst location. There I was responsible for not only the sales end of the business, but the building and grounds and general service coordinator for the fleet of vehicles. When I started at the location the annual sales for the location was around a million dollars and when I left the company to pursue my current career it was over three million dollars annually.
