I pay the bills, I analyze the cash flows, I also do some HR stuff (onboarding, managing employee benefits, a few other little things). This is my first actual accounting job. It hasn't been easy, but I'm learning a lot and loving it. I am really trying to get the most out of this experience and I have a lot of ongoing projects I'm working on with Townshippers. I see my role with our organization as an "assistant-coach". Townshippers' mission is to help meet the needs of the anglophone minority population in the Eastern Townships, and although I am not directly involved in running the projects, I aim to improve my knowledge and understanding of all the data I maintain in order to facilitate the ability of my teammates to go out and win games! (It's not a perfect sports analogy I know!) I'm currently working on completely reorganizing our file system (2021-2023 fiscal years are good to go, but I have about 7 years of old messy files to go through... eventually). I have also created a lot of new excel templates (with a focus on legibility) to track allocations, spending, expenses, and employee hours/benefits. Next up is learning and revamping our financial reports, and on the back burner I am creating a database to keep track of various relevant information (but getting this up and running is a very long-term goal). I was for a total change of pace after my previous experience, and I found this cool little job at a scrapyard. Although this in no way progressed my career, I learned an absolute ton of new things and overall had a very enjoyable experience. I'm not exactly sure how to translate the job title here. The direct translation is just "worker," which is fairly accurate. I worked in non-ferrous metals, and my main priorities were as follows: i. Evaluating materials brought in by clients and purchasing them at an agreed-upon price. ii. "Upgrading" metals via various methods of separating them into more precise categories so they could be shipped out and resold at higher prices. iii. Daily inspections of heavy equipment to ensure safety standards. iv. Receiving large shipments of materials from clients. v. Inventory management. Show less

Assistant Manager in charge of leading the night team. I learned a lot about managing in a high pressure environment. To me, leadership means supporting your team through encouragement, empathy, and cooperation. I believe you get the most out of people when they feel happy and fulfilled at their jobs. That is the type of environment I strive to create when I'm leading a team. Left this position due to scheduling issues and family obligation. Assistant Manager in charge of leading the night team. My department of origin is maitenance, although I also work from time to time with the service, merchandise, and restaurant departments. My department is responsible for cleaning everything in the warehouse, from before opening hours until after the close. We are a small team working autonomously in a large company. Although we do technically have a manager, my teammates and I coordinate and accomplish all daily, weekly and monthly tasks amongst ourselves. We also are required to be extremely flexible, responding to customer and store needs throughout the day. In a given day, I may be required to do all my daily tasks, help the merchandise team before open, help at the cash during periods of high traffic, respond to calls, answer customer inquiries, and work on progressing the weekly and monthly tasks. There is literally never down time for my team, even on the slowest days. Show less
