I resided within a multi-industry partnership to support the design of the Astute Replacement Submarine design. I sat as the lead interface between Rolls-Royce and the MoD customer and worked closely with other industry partners on the development of the system and structural development of the platform, providing technical support and authoring concept reports.

Future Submarines Reactor Systems Lead
-
Aug 2013 - Mar 2017
I was the lead systems design engineer for the future nuclear reactor design of the Astute replacement submarine. This had involved generating advanced reactor design concepts; seeking to provide capability and safety improvements whilst targeting substantial cost saving. I took a lead role in the development of the long term design programme, creating a strategy for integrating advancing technologies alongside progressing plant designs. I had a principal role in the generation of overall plant system design; integrating both the critical and emergency safety systems. I worked alongside the nuclear Research and Technology division of Rolls-Royce, and had provided a significant contribution to determining the long term assignment of funding in support of the future reactor design. Dec 2011 - Sep 2013
I worked in the field of nuclear systems integration and operations, looking at how the various nuclear plant systems can be integrated to provide a decay heat removal solution, whilst developing operating philosophies and procedures, ultimately producing design and safety documentation for the MoD customer and Naval Regulator.

Fluid Systems Engineer
-
Sep 2010 - Dec 2011
On joining Rolls-Royce my early role involved analysing heat losses through particular nuclear plant components. I subsequently took on a role within the whole plant performance division, re-building a RELAP steam generator model used within the whole plant models.
