I recently began writing for Gamecocks Digest, a FanNation Channel on SI.com covering all sports for the University of South Carolina Gamecocks. Through March 16th, I have five articles published and more on the way. This position has required in-depth research of teams and athletes I was previously unfamiliar with, concise writing, attention to detail, meta description, and time management. As I continue writing as part of the Gamecocks Digest team and have more experience, I will update this description. Show less

At DoorDash I am working hard to pay college expenses and continue funding my dream of becoming a sports statistician. Since November 2019, I have over 1,400 orders delivered with an on-time percentage of 96%. At DoorDash, being punctual is a large part of the job, but it is only half the battle. I pride myself on my 4.94/5 customer satisfaction rating. I always make sure my customers receive everything they ordered and deliver their food or groceries the way they want while keeping their food cold or warm in my insulated DoorDash bag. Upon delivery, it is important to provide polite service with a good attitude because we all know what it's like to be frustratingly hungry waiting for our delicious food to prepare or arrive! DoorDash is a great company to work at in college. I get to pick my hours, short or long, and the process of being a bridge between company and consumer has provided me extensive knowledge of Athens roads, as well as my hometown, Columbus, Ohio. • Bishop's Custom Concrete

    • Owner's Assistant
      • May 2018 - Sep 2018

While working for Bishop Custom's Concrete, my brother's company, I learned a lot about construction work and aspects of entrepreneurship. The company was my brother, myself, and occasionally my brother's friend from a former job. There were three parts to the physical aspect of my job: removing the concrete, forming a foundation for a new slab to be poured, and pouring concrete. When we had jobs lined up we would rent an excavator, which I was trained and proficient in using, and simply dig out the concrete slabs then drive them to a trailer. However, excavators are expensive to rent. Anytime we weren't booked with jobs it made more sense for us to cut out that expense and do everything by hand. For hours on end in the hot sun, I would pound the ground to make cracks, use a pick to lift the concrete slabs creating an air pocket, and hammer the elevated slabs breaking the concrete loose. I'd then load up the broken slabs in a wheelbarrow until it's full, and push it up to a trailer to dump. That process would repeat until the entire driveway, sidewalk, patio, etc. was removed. Next was forming. I learned how to cut wooden planks and nail them together creating a shell for the new slab of concrete. When it was pouring day, I would use a concreting rake to push and pull the concrete mix into place while my brother flattened and finished the job. We used tools such as trowels, edgers, and floats to make sure everything was even to create the traditional squares you walk on today. I was not only a laborer, though. I created a business outline for my brother using monthly bill payments, job receipts, and other costs of living that determined how much revenue was needed in the business to sustain profitability, while also estimating how many jobs it would take to do so, annually. Throughout this job, I strengthened my attributes of perseverance and grit, while learning how to use tools and think like an entrepreneur. Show less

At Student Painting and Landscaping, I learned what it takes to maintain a beautiful garden. My job consisted of creating or extending mulch beds, cutting grass, trimming bushes and trees, and advertising. I embellished houses by transforming dull, messy gardens into sleek outdoor art pieces, then maintained their beauty. When I wasn't working hands-on in the gardens or on the lawn, I was busy diversifying and broadening the company’s consumer acquisition base through door-to-door advertisements in and around northwestern Franklin County. While I was not permitted to make sales, I sold potential customers on the idea of choosing Student Painters and Landscapers for their painting and landscaping needs. This job gave me an introduction to sales and taught me the importance of finesse when dealing with delicate situations such as mulching around flowers in a garden bed. Show less

At Mezzo, I was essentially the assistant to the servers, managers, and kitchen staff. The way I did my job embodied the reputation Mezzo's food and service created, putting them on opentable.com's Top 100 restaurants list for the city of Columbus. Mezzo being so successful instilled a fast-paced work ethic in me. I was responsible for stocking and organizing the beer fridge, rearranging and setting up tables to meet reservation requests, breaking down all boxes from the previous night, and performing varying day-to-day tasks Mezzo needed to be successful, all in the first hour of work. Once Mezzo opened, I had to clear and reset tables all over the restaurant and deliver food from the upstairs kitchen to our customers, while providing a great attitude and listening then fulfilling any requests customers asked of me at their tables. I also had to bring heavy tubs of dishes from the bar and clean-up area to the kitchen to be washed. Being there for almost two years, I became the busser that my managers would rely on to train new hires and assist them with tasks they were unfamiliar or slow at and my training helped other bussers contribute to the fun, nice, atmosphere Mezzo provided. Working as a busser was tough and important work. A lot of it was physical, specifically taking the 50 lb. tubs upstairs 10+ times per shift. I hardly got time to take a breather because there was always work to do or something to prepare for, but every day I got to leave work knowing I did a job well done helping my company maximize revenue and keep customers coming back for more delicious food.
