I had the opportunity to join the (ASTP) COAST program. This looked like a great opportunity for me to gain knowledge in analytical chemistry. During this program, the student (me) gained insight into the role analytical processes/chemistry play in our society. Lectures ranged from topics concerning tracing illegal substances and the Opium law to GC-GC-MS and its evolution as a measurement technique. All these lectures put analytical thinking first and gave us case studies in which we could practice our problem solving skills. Show less

Assisted the elastomer research department with analysing natural rubber reinforced with their product CarbonX. The R&D laboratory offered an interesting learning experience as all samples were polymers. Something I never had the pleasure of working with previously. “Matthew did a very good job. Worked with Master students and graduates assisting them and Veolia with providing analysis on samples from their pilot plants. Independently solved problems that arose during said analyses during the internship.
