  TheSignStudio was born from chance, from necessity but mostly from a strong friendship between Matteo Vilardo and Luke Hornung. Working on projects together at Istituto Europeo di Design they realise despite the different cultural backgrounds - Matteo is from Sicily, and Luke is born in London- to have a similar ethical and narrative thinking in the process of designing. Soon after graduating they open their first studio in the centre of Milan, working as designers. On the first projects they collaborate with Centro Ricerche IED working for a few different companies, such as Mulino Bianco, HugoBoss, Samsonite, Globo and Luxottica. Soon after they design a series of technical tools for BM group. At the same time they decide to partecipate to a few contests, in Eridania Sugar Design they win the first prize and in Real 13+light they reach the final round. Some of their projects are shown in different occasions at the Triennale di Milano. When only 23 and 25 anni they are selected and published in the young section of the ADI Design Index 2011 with the project Organic Pack, allowing them to enter the selection to win the prestigious design prize Compasso d’Oro.In 2012 they win a Red Dot Design Award with the designed scissors X-PRO EVO for BM Group. In 2014 they are again published in the ADI Design Index 2014 with their ESAWARE project. They currently teach in Milan at Istituto Europeo di Design holding graphic design and 3D modelling courses.They offer an all around service of creative advice: brand strategy, communication, product design, interior design. The studio truly believes in the importance of connecting and creating synergies between different fields offering innovative solutions in constant evolution. At present they collaborate with designers, video makers, copy writers, art directors and fashion designers.
