At that time I was able to work with the Project Server MS development team, for a particurarly big migration from Artemis to Project Server 2003. While in this position I built a vba framework living inside Project Professional that mimicked OOB best practices, and with which I was able to intercep every single event Project Professional could generate and write objects that added functionality over those events. Since the features were actually objects, it was easy to mantain the whole solution, migrate it and so on Also I create a plugin for Project Professional that implemented and enforced the EVMS methodology.
