In December 2020 Melbourne City FC announced it was relocating to South East Melbourne. From July 2019 to July 2022 I project managed the City of Casey and City of Greater Dandenong’s components of this move, following on from the Councils’ roles in the previous “Team 11” A-League and W-League bid. This multi-faceted role involved: negotiations with Melbourne City on behalf of the City of Casey and City of Greater Dandenong to secure the Club's move; successful development of a 30-Year Lease for Melbourne City to be based at Casey Fields; design of the new Etihad City Football Academy at Casey Fields; strategic planning for infrastructure development (current and future); government relations and advocacy; communications planning and local media liaison for major announcements and milestones; procurement of and assistance in the running of W-League matches at Dandenong City Soccer Club; operations and logistics planning for Melbourne City’s move to and occupation of Casey Fields; planning for the development of a local business network involving Melbourne City; local football club liaison, linking Melbourne City with the grassroots football community; community outreach and activation planning; management of “Team City” social media channels; chair and administrator of various Project Control Groups and Project Working Groups. Melbourne City FC's move came with the full-support of those involved with the previous “Team 11” bid. Show less

    • “Team 11”
      • Mar 2018 - Jul 2019

Developed and helped run the South East Melbourne A-League and W-League bid known as “Team 11”. Started working alongside the City of Casey and City of Greater Dandenong voluntarily towards the end of 2016 - developing the "idea" of the bid, providing strategic guidance to the councils, pulling together local stakeholders and coordinating launch events in May-June 2017. This then led to taking on a full-time role in March 2018 upon the official commencement of the A-League expansion process. Working within a small project team, the multi-faceted role included: strategic planning; sourcing of private investment to fund licence fee and operational capital; government relations and advocacy; lead liaison with Football Federation Australia and A-League management; media management; social media curation; liaising with and garnering support of grassroots football clubs; liaising with and garnering support of former and current Socceroos and Matildas from the region as ambassadors; preparation of bid documentation; public spokesperson and MC for official events. Role expanded in March 2019 to also include sourcing of (and promoting of) major sporting events in Dandenong and Casey. This involved the successful procurement of, and assistance in planning for, Melbourne Storm’s pre-season trial at Casey Fields in February 2020 (which led to a second pre-season game in 2022) and Rugby Victoria’s International 7s event at Casey Fields in October 2019. Started as an Editorial Assistant in January 2008, soon after finishing high school, before moving to the sports desk in 2009. Between 2012-2018 I was primarily a football journalist (A-League, W-League, FFA Cup, Socceroos etc) and established the "A-League Confidential" brand used across News Ltd mastheads. This involved coordinating football operations across the Herald Sun, Daily Telegraph, Courier Mail and Adelaide Advertiser, strategic planning, compiling news lists, curating social media content and working with editors and managing directors across the country to best leverage football's coverage. Regularly travelled interstate and overseas to cover A-League, Socceroos and Asian Champions League. Also took great pleasure in writing about other sports (such as AFL, Super Rugby) and major events (e.g. Australian Open tennis, AFL Grand Finals, Melbourne Cup, Jayco Herald Sun Tour etc). Often hosted and contributed to videos (news stories, match previews, weekly shows) and podcasts. Semi-regularly appeared on Fox Sports News to discuss stories and events of the day. Herald Sun work dovetailed into regular contributions on networks such as SEN 1116, RSN breakfast and the Daily Football Show. Was required to deputise as Sport Chief of Staff from time-to-time.
