I had the pleasure of working with Matt Vallone for 4 years at Avascent, and I’d like to highlight two of Matt’s many valuable skills: his management abilities and his deep expertise of the defense industry and US politics. As head of research for Avascent Analytics, Matt managed a large team of analysts who produced deliverables for a collection of Fortune 500 companies. He adroitly managed competing priorities, including ad hoc requests and long-term projects. He also continually developed the team and the products. For example, he was one of the original advocates of agile project management at the company, and he was also one of the first managers to encourage analysts to learn more technical skills, like SQL. Matt’s success as a manager might only be eclipsed by his success as a defense expert. He has a clear, natural passion for defense issues, especially for how legislative priorities and politics will affect defense funding, and he can hold his own in meetings with experts twice his age. He correctly predicted the funding amount of the first Trump defense budget (with a small margin of error), and I’ve seen him correctly predict other legislative outcomes regarding defense issues. Furthermore, he enjoys constructively engaging with the public on these issues, whether it’s through Avascent’s

Matt is a talented leader with a remarkable depth of public policy knowledge and expertise. In the Congresswoman's office he brought a detail-oriented and disciplined approach to our wide-ranging policy efforts. Matt's real skill though was in translating his knowledge of complex issues in to tangible impact on the ground. There was never a call or meeting with a New Hampshire business or interest group that Matt was not a 100% prepared for. After talking to Matt our constituents always knew that they had an advocate in our Washington office that really "got it" and could drive results on the issues they cared about.
