My role at NHS England primarily focused on the evaluation of the New Care Models (NCM) vanguards. The NCM programme has been described as “arguably the largest project on national health care delivery redesign in history” (Don Berwick). The programme provided funding for each vanguard to undertake local evaluations of interventions of their choosing. This resulted in hundreds of reports and other pieces of analysis. I have led the analysis and interpretation of the quantitative components of these local evaluations, which has entailed reviewing their methodological strengths and weaknesses, and synthesising and interpreting the key findings. Other key pieces of work I have undertaken relating to the NCM programme include:-Design, construction, and analysis of the local metrics database-Detailed evaluation of the costs of two interventions, including discussion of the methodological challenges of costing integrated care-Undertaking fieldwork using the Adult Social Care Outcomes Tool (ASCOT), to pilot the use of this tool for calculating social care-related quality of life for care home residents-Brief literature review of the expected costs of implementing particular elements of the NCM care homes frameworkTasks and projects outside of the NCM programme include:-Applying findings from academic research to estimate the impact of changes in social care spending on the NHS-Reviewing evaluations of other NHS programmes (e.g. Test Beds, HelpForce)-Analysis of the impact of a new surgical tool on patient outcomes

Founded the University of York Effective Altruism society (originally Giving What We Can: York).Effective Altruism (EA) is a movement that seeks to identify the charities, policies, and careers that can most successfully improve the world. The recommendation of charities is in large part based on cost-effectiveness of the intervention(s) provided by the charity, thus involvement in effective altruism lead me to being interested in health economics, and ultimately an MSc in the subject.Establishing and promoting the society has required giving public talks, working alongside a committee and delegating tasks, organising and promoting speaker events (e.g. from various high-impact charities, such as the Schistosomiasis Control Initiative, and the Against Malaria Foundation), collaborating with other societies, and generating online publicity. My founding and involvement of the society led to increased long-term donations and fundraising for the top EA-recommended charities.
