I had the good fortune of being able to hire Matt, not once, but twice, and I wouldn’t hesitate to jump at a third if the opportunity presented itself. He proved an invaluable asset at Metromix.com and was crucial to the Denver site launching and becoming an instant success. At Examiner.com, I watched him rise from an assistant channel manager to Director of Content—upward movement unusual for the company. He quickly grew his command to the entire content operation and led a period of sustained growth in both revenue and traffic in an otherwise difficult time for similar media products. He’s a pro at managing content and contributors and is always looking for ways to innovate. He’d often know the answer before I knew the right question to ask. Beyond editorial, Matt helped dig into web analytics, increase retention and maintain contributor satisfaction. We worked in very high volume, yet he possesses an uncanny level of organizational skill and was never rattled. His borderline spreadsheet OCD doesn’t come at the expense of creativity either. He’s strategic and creative, and can write with the best of ‘em. His proficiency and forward-thinking made my job easier, and his calm demeanor and inspiring focus makes everyone around him better.
