I work within the Internal Technical Support (ITS) team as a Systems Engineering Consultant. ITS work closely with clients across a range of delivery teams to help solve some of the most complex problems in Defence. ITS work across the entire project life-cycle, from helping clients translate military customer needs into clear technical and contractual requirements to supporting the development of robust acceptance plans, or solving in-service challenges. My role as a Systems Engineering Consultant is to develop a range of system engineering products (e.g., requirements documents, integrated test and evaluation plans, system and capability architectures, engineering management plans) that meet client’s needs. I also provide consultancy services regarding systems engineering methodologies, approaches, tools and frameworks. My responsibilities include:• Understanding the inter-dependencies and interrelationships between systems• Thinking across technical and professional disciplines, understanding the legal, commercial and technical implications of different options• Helping clients navigate complex issues • Managing large and complex portfolios of consultancy tasks to client satisfaction, cost and time• Building rapport and trust and understand the customer's needs.

PHD Researcher

My PhD thesis was entitled: "Coping with Complexity: Approaches, Tools and Frameworks for Systems Engineering."I was responsible for researching design strategies for Complex Systems Engineering within the school of Aerospace Engineering. The research was funded by the UK Research Council and a large Defence and Space organisation who required new methods, tools and techniques to architect and design systems that are increasingly connected and complex. My research has resulted in two new approaches to evaluating systems early in their lifecycle, both of which have been published: A new framework for evaluating the complexity of an engineered system, and An approach to evaluate the robustness and resiliency of a system architecture. The interested reader is directed to my publications list and google scholar profile for access to my peer-reviewed publications, most of which are available freely as open access.Conducting this research has developed my own knowledge and understanding of systems engineering processes, decision support tools, and enterprise/solution/systems architecting.
