I've had the pleasure of watching Matt grow into a role I'm sure he was destined for. I know of few people with such a talent for herding cats as Matt can. Matt is an exemplar of servant-leadership, ensuring his team has everything they need to succeed, doing so with a cheery smile and a cheeky twinkle in his eye. I'm convinced he could tell folks to go to Hell and have them looking forward to the journey! An eternal student, Matt is always open to growth, and is able to extract the learning from any situation, and transform it into a positive experience for all concerned. Where Matt really excels though, in my opinion, is in bringing just enough structure and order to chaos in order to harness it as a power for good. From statistical process control, with his probabilistic forecasting saving time and money in delivery, to a detailed eye for information architecture in tooling such as Confluence, saving senior stakeholders valuable time in assimilating information for situational awareness. Matt will try to tell you that he's not a coach, but don't be fooled. With a profound understanding of the business of the British Army and the business of running the British Army, it's been an incredible adventure to be a part of this high performing team, under his guidance and coaching. I sincerely hope we get the opportunity to work together again.

Not only does Matt have an immense work ethic, he very much cares about objectively doing the right thing. And doing the work in a manner that focuses on the important stuff. He is the type of person you want working in the British Army, Ministry of Defence, or any agency that’s funded by the tax payer. Personally, as a researcher, he is the best delivery manager I have worked with. Matt truly understands the importance of gathering data and speaking to people first hand. That was a particular highlight for me working while working with him on this project. The past 8 months have been immense. We have gone on a real journey as a team. And spent many caffeinated-fuelled weeks filled with talking to fascinating people and trying to understand their fundamental needs. I have been seriously impressed by Matts dedication, commitment and loyalty. And his ability to muck in. No task in the team is beneath him. He is a proper team player. It may be a military thing, but it has been an honour to be a part of. And despite his rubbish jokes, I know that Matt really cares about us as a team. I sincerely hope we get to work together again. Even better if it involved us working to better some of the problems we’ve uncovered. I have learnt or learned 😂 a lot by being on the team and I suspect this contract will be one I remember even when I’m old and grey. #LookUp

I had the pleasure of working with Matt Odell during my time supporting General Dynamics (GD) on the EvO programme. At the time, Matt was a serving Major and assigned to the programme as the Lead User, overseeing user participation in a new User Centred Design (UCD) approach to system design and product development activities. Matt was essentially the Army HQ sponsor for UCD, and as such was instrumental in pushing the uptake and roll-out of a User-Centred process. He assimilated new concepts and information quickly, easily seeing the benefits and true value to the users in following such a user-based approach. His passion for its use was infectious, and essential in convincing his senior officers and senior management within GD that UCD was a necessity to ensure solutions met the users’ needs. Matt championed the use of Digital Services processes throughout the programme. He also led and presented Solution Demonstrations so that technical demonstrations were made analogous to how intended use of operation; Matt always ensured he underlined the true benefits the solution brought to the Users which resulted in wider senior stakeholder buy in to the outcomes of the programme. Matt’s participation in the Solution Demonstrations marked a step change in the success of those events; his approach and participation suddenly made the milestone much more relevant. It was an absolute pleasure working with Matt, and I am sure that his passion, dedication to user value, and ability and willingness to harness new approaches will benefit him, and the users he works with, hugely in his future ventures with MilUX. Hopefully our paths will cross again in the future.
