Currently, I work on a Helitack Crew on the Idaho Panhandle National Forest with the US Forest Service. Our crew's main mission objective is the Initial Attack of remote fires and being aviation experts in the aerial firefighting realm. Our area of response is 2.5 million acres of federal land we also respond to local and state-owned land including the WIldland Uban Interface. Primarily we operate out of 2, Type 3 helicopters, a Bell 407HP or Eurocopter AS350 (A-star B2). We often respond to these remote fires and staff them until they are out. We are expected to be self-sufficient for the duration of the firefighting mission. Through my experience on 'Panhandle Helitack', I have gained great experience being an Incident Commander and a Helicopter crew member, helping direct bucket drops, and managing fires in both suppression and monitoring, as well as a plethora of other aerial firefighting tactics and firefighting related duties.
