The story of the Kansas Air National Guard is a great one, and I'm the fortunate person who gets to tell it.Skills include:• Graphics art• Layout and design• Photojournalism• Copywriting • Presentation design• Web management Click the link below to view the 184th Wing's website.Responsibilities:• Manages, mentors and leads a nine-person team of Public Affairs Specialists who create products for social media, web, print, and e-mail communication campaigns.• Provides leadership for planning, designing, and executing a comprehensive public affairs program for communicating the organization's programs, policies, and activities to the surrounding publics.• Directs public affairs support for unit-level operations, to include community relations; media interactions and facilitations; information strategies; liaison between local organizations, federal/state/local government officials.• Advises on choice, timing and relative importance of information for dissemination to the general public using knowledge of general and specialized media.• Identifies and analyzes communication needs, concerns and attitudes of various publics as they relate to Kansas Air National Guard programs and policies.• Maintains knowledge of the most current and effective communication methods and techniques to carry out duties of the position and provide training in these methods for others as needed.• Evaluate trends in public opinion to determine public attitudes and perceptions as they relate to unit-level policies.• Ensure that team members are appropriately involved in decision-making activities, using various tools and techniques to improve productivity and morale.• Develop crisis communication plans during emergency events such as natural and man-made disasters, evacuations, fatalities, etc.
