Matt is a very skilled engineer. He always had a lot to contribute to the NPD lab team. He is innovative and very motivated. Matt is someone who needs little direction to make things happen. With his design skills and personality, he makes an invaluable employee.

In January of 2023, High Point Aerotechnologies purchased Black Sage. The mission remains the same, and we continue to develop and sell the best CUAS systems on the market. As a System Engineer, I'm involved in the design of full sensor deployments. I work mostly in our Sawtooth product line, which is aimed at commercial clients to protect vulnerable infrastructure projects. The Sawtooth line is extremely modular, giving us the flexibility to use different sensors and effectors to match the end customer's desired capabilities and budget. Show less

Black Sage Technologies develops premier systems to track, identify, and counter drones. Black Sage was one of the first companies to develop a layered approach to C-UAS defense using systems that combine radars, EO/IR cameras, and passive listening sensors. The system is controlled by our own DefenseOS, a command and control suite that's adaptable to multiple sensors and easy for operators to learn. Some highlights of my job duties are listed below: • Designed the hardware required to support individual customer deployments. • Found and qualified outside manufacturing vendors. • Because Black Sage is such a small company, the engineers are very hands-on and always end up assembling the first 1-2 builds of any of their designs. Western Trailers makes the best trailers that you'll find on the road. The company manufactures a wide variety of products including flatbeds, curtainsiders, commodity belt, express floor, and chip trailers. Western is very accommodating to the customer's wants, and offers many options and configurations that cannot be purchased anywhere else. A visitor to the factory once remarked that we mass-produced custom trailers. In addition to the standard lineup of products, Western is not afraid to take on short runs for specialized loads like glass hauling. Most of my work was with the platform trailers team, and a short summary of my responsibilities is listed below. • Lead Engineer for the flatbed products group, which comprises approximately 45% of the company’s total business. • Works on every aspect of the design process, beginning with the initial quote and ending with the final print review. • Maintains an engineering production schedule to manage workloads and ensure timely project completion. • Manages 3-4 drafters, defining project requirements and reviewing all work for design accuracy and safety prior to releasing the order for production. AcoCo Precision Manufacturing specialized in large and hard to make parts, mostly for semiconductor CVD and Etch tools. I was fortunate enough to be involved in most of the product design and manufacturing process, with some of the highlights listed below: • Worked directly with semiconductor tooling manufacturers to become the OEM manufacturer of components from every part of the semiconductor manufacturing process. • Used a wide variety of exotic machines and inspection equipment such as optical comparators, profilometers, optical and mechanical coordinate measuring machines (CMM), laser tracking CMMs, and a scanning electron microscope with an EDS attachment. • Gained experience working in a product quality environment that met ISO13485 standards for medical device manufacturing. • Collaborated with internal machinists and technicians to solve manufacturing problems. • Identified and qualified potential suppliers of obscure components and processes used in semiconductor tooling. • Obtained respirator certification to assist in defining and creating new chemical processes as well as disposing of unneeded chemicals. • Performed failure analysis on parts returned by the customer. • Aided the quality department in establishing statistical process control parameters, as well as performing the initial statistical analysis to determine actual process capability. • Produced manufacturing blueprints for products developed in-house. The Melni Connector is a new and less labor-intensive way of joining two electrical cables. The device and it's many derivative forms are patented and are currently in the development/initial production phase. A summary of my responsibilities is listed below: • As lead engineer, managed new product development, prototyping, and testing of secondary electrical connectors. • Oversaw mechanical, electrical, and thermal product testing at both the Idaho National Laboratory and Boise State University. • Assisted in product marketing by providing high quality renderings and animations. • Supervised the creation of injection mold tooling to make the first run of connectors for testing. • Company was eventually funded on Shark Tank, and I was bought out of my stock. Boise State University's New Product Development Lab is a great resource in the valley, where entrepreneurs can get design and prototyping help to bring their ideas to life. I worked there while I was a student at BSU, and it was one of the most rewarding jobs I have ever had. Some of my responsibilities while employed there are listed below: • Interned during college working with local entrepreneurial companies on design and prototyping development. • Operated rapid prototyping equipment including SLA, FDM, CNC milling machines and manual lathes.
