Science Technician (Physics) & Radiation Protection Supervisor
-
Dec 2010 - Sep 2017
As physics technician, my role was to prepare resources for KS3-5 lessons as requested to support the work of the teaching staff. I maintained, repaired and constructed equipment as needed. I also assisted the other technical staff in the department, working closely alongside the biology and chemistry technicians to supplement my knowledge in tasks such as chemical handling, preparation and safe disposal. My role expanded to include operating as Radiation Protection Supervisor for the site, ensuring the safe and secure handling of ionising radiations within the department. It was my responsibility to manage the use of the sources in lessons by teaching staff, provide training in safe handling techniques, perform routine leak checks, store audits, and maintain the necessary paperwork and usage logs to ensure compliance with Ionising Radiation Regulations IR99.
