As the Biology Student Ambassador Coordinator, I am responsible for organising Student Ambassadors to work at open days, visit days and other academic functions. I recruit, train, and organise the student ambassadors and am their first point on contact on visit days. I am also involved in giving departmental/campus tours to prospective students, representing the university and sharing my personal experiences.

Research Placement

I completed a three-week statistical modelling placement with Professor Calvin Dytham investigating partial-migrations of bird species (using example data from Reed Warblers). During this project I developed my coding skills using RStudio to investigate the trends and patterns in a large data set.

My Year in Industry involved working in the Development Team at Woolpit to conduct agricultural field studies. My role was varied and involved:- Keeping accurate records of all chemical arriving and leaving the site- Preparing chemical for both internal and external trialists- Post-harvest grain analysis- Assisting with the spraying, assessment and harvest of field trials- Calibrating and maintaining trials equipment- Assisting Agronomy Managers at On Track events - Assisting the marketing department at larger events (such as Cereals)Student Project Title: Evaluate the effectiveness of ornithological conservation efforts at Top House Farm, Rawcliffe Bridge

My main duties were working to identify and protect Loggerhead Sea Turtle nests, take measurements of the nest (such as egg depth and distance to sea) and observing Sea Turtle behaviour and interactions in Argostoli harbour. If necessary nests were relocated to suitable locations. When recording Sea Turtle behaviour in Argostoli harbour, I educated tourists on Turtle behaviour and how to protect this threatened species. Light Pollution Surveys and Beach Profiling were conducted to see the effects of anthropogenic and natural factors on Sea Turtle nesting.I developed my scientific skills working on a large scale conservation, research and education project. This involved working with large data sets and improved my accuracy in following scientific protocols.
