I am very honoured and really privileged to endorse Matt Bell! He is an excellent undergraduate student with exceptional skills and diligence. He’s a tremendous asset in his knowledge of marine biology and is able to extend to many other attributes! These include public speaking, writing and teaching and research. I would strongly recommend him for a career in his field! He is a clear leader and manager!

Diving Student Ambassador for the Marine Station.

    • Commercial HSE SCUBA diving Internship (Marine Station)
      • Jun 2022 - Jul 2022

Assisting in the preparation of diving equipment for the HSE SCUBA courses:• Filling diving cylinders• Assisting the Dive Technician in repairing and servicing diving equipment (under supervision)• Assisting on the surface at dive sites• Diving when required to make up odd numbers of students on the HSE SCUBA courses• Diving on project dives• Assisting with support vessel operations (PIGs) during diving activities and skippering, undersupervision, as required• Providing social media updates of their experiences on the diving placement• Assistance with general boat maintenance and servicing• Marine Station general dutiesOver the two months and my previous experiences in the preceding diving module, I identified a lack of information to inform new HSE divers on what to expect in the commercial work place. I created a lecture and presented this at the end of there corse covering: Laws and legislations, questions to ask potential employers, red flags, must brings, how to invoice contractors, reasonable payment, potential employers and additional qualifications commercial divers are expected to also have. After the internship, in 2023, I formed part of the interview panel to hire a new HSE instructor for the Marine Station. This was an eye-opening experience to sit at the other end of the table, ask questions, and listen to some high-level Commercial SCUBA diving presentations. Show less

I set up and ran the GA Tyne & Wear Instagram account, later linking it to Facebook and Twitter to increase publicity for geography lectures to A level and GCSE students. After leaving 6th form for University, I handed over the account to a year 12 student to keep younger people interested and give another young voice in the committee meetings. Now in 2022 I am back as lead of the GAT&W Instagram account.

“Place, space and NEA: The regeneration of the Ouseburn Valley” Overview Active GA Member and University of Plymouth undergraduate Matt Bell will outline his educational career journey before exploring the concepts of place and space through the lens of his Non-Examined Assessment. Matt will delve into the impacts of regeneration in the Ouseburn by exploring a range of qualitative and quantitative sources gathered during his own NEA and aims to use his recent personal experience to arm you with hints and tips to excel in your NEA and avoid common pitfalls. Both space and place are fundamental concepts in understanding the complex dynamics of our world. Their exploration is crucial to grasping the intricate relationship between society, the environment, and the spatial organisation of human activities. Space and Place thereby provide the ability to analyse the consequences of rapid urbanisation, industrialisation, and the exploitation of natural resources. A fantastic example of this is the Ouseburn ward, particularly along the river Ouse, where regeneration has been a constant flow from the pre-industrial revolution to the present day. Matt E. Receiving quality training for thriving in the arctic environment while conducting science. I have completed the warrior selection weekend, core skills, the funding and sponsorship workshop to obtain the skills needed to raise £25,000 for my equipment, training, transport, food and participation. Basic and advanced polar training took place in Svalbard, I completed this in May 2022. In January 2023, the mini-expedition in Svalbard took place which puts all your skills to the test over an 8 day period. (Also completed). An over all enjoyable and once in a life time (hopefully not) experience to be able to witness such wilderness and help through my participation fund and publicise, in a small capacity, the #LastPole expedition.
