Many projects in lengoo require close collaboration between the software engineering team, of which Mats is the product manager, and the machine translation (MT) team, which I am a part of. And for me, this collaboration would not have been as effective if it weren’t for Mats. Having worked alongside Mats for more than a year now, I have seen him take on as many roles in almost every team as necessary to help the company’s vision and products come to life. He is a product manager, but also a project manager, validator, tester, developer, (great!) communicator, and an overall clever mind. He just makes everybody’s work/lives easier; both his managers and his colleagues. All of this is possible because he is an avid learner, and seems to always be acquiring knowledge about new topics to help him (and us) get work done more effectively. Mats always asks for feedback to improve himself and the workflow of everyone. But the skill that I highly appreciate the most about him is his ability to ask the right questions. Being able to pinpoint what needs to be asked is a crucial part of Mats’s Swiss army knife of skills. It’s the thing that makes me enjoy working with him the most. I am glad that Mats is part of this company and really appreciate what he brings to it, not just as part of his job, but also as a person who is fun to be around. Here’s to another year of great projects!

I have had the pleasure of working with Mats over the last year in his role as a product manager for the software engineering team. The machine translation team, which I am a part of, works very closely with product and software engineering to advance our technology. Mats has been a key player in driving our advancements, in building up our teams, and in moving our product forward. First and foremost, Mats is an innovator. He is always thinking about how to improve the outward-facing product, as well as how to improve our internal workflows. He has been the primary force behind much of the processes we have now, from automation and documentation tools, to team workflows and product design. Mats is technologically-minded, as well as people-oriented, which is a rare combination of qualities, and something that has benefited us immensely. He is able to get down to the low level with the engineers, to pin down specific requirements, while also keeping the design of the final product in mind. He also knows how to pick our battles, and has been instrumental in deciding when we should improve on an old product, and when it is time to dive into a new solution. Personally, he is also very open-minded, curious, and empathetic. He is always ready to answer questions, and also to learn something new, which I think is very important when working on a diverse and multidisciplinary team such as ours. In short, I feel fortunate to have the chance to work with Mats, and feel that he would be an asset to any team. In addition, I believe that his teamwork and leadership skills would only be an asset in a managerial position.
