  I support the directors of ANUedge to develop, commercialise and deliver consulting services based on ANU "soft research". I say soft research because a full half of the university's research is not technical, and the ideas may be of value while being unprotectable with IP. Such ideas do not fit the conventional avenue of commericialisation with IP protection and high upfront capital requirements. Instead we turn the invention or idea into a repeatable service and build a team to deliver it. For me this involves data collection (e.g. surveying, interviewing) and analysis, then communicating the findings clearly. Around this I often have complete project manager responsibilities including managing budgets and schedules. Time that is not spent on projects is usually spent on business development activities, proposal writing and developing new services.

  My thesis investigated chaotic structures that form among the magnetic field lines in a fusion plasma. I investigated certain structures called "flux surfaces", toroidal structures that exist between chaotic volumes, separating the two. I solved the problem as a Hamiltonian system and investigated the conditions under which a solution can be found. Because there is more than one variable that can parameterise chaos, I introduce the concept of "robustness diagrams" - basically contour plots that show the domains of two variables in which a solution is possible. I also discovered that the system is incredibly complicated, and so formulated a simplified Hamiltonian system which acts as a nice "toy problem" to investigate the transition to chaos with more than one chaotic variable.

  We created podcasts for institutions wanting another avenue to get their message across. We specialised in scientific or research organisations. We also provided the service of recording and uploading conference presentations so interested people can access the information remotely, or later. We have created podcasts for the Australian National University in which each episode communicated one piece of interesting research. We have since created multiple podcasts in a variety of styles. We created podcasts for institutions wanting another avenue to get their message across. We specialised in scientific or research organisations.
