I came to know Mathew while we were studying engineering at university. In addition to his understanding of civil engineering theory and practice, I found he had a sound grasp on many of today's environmental and sustainability issues. Furthermore, he is someone that isn't afraid to 'go the extra mile' to get a project done well.

Engineering Research Assistant | Hydrodynamics and Hydrology | Darwin, NTThe lower Mary River is a system experiencing salt-water intrusion and has current coastal land management strategies in place. Working with PhD candidate Mike Miloshis, Mathew conducted a variety of approaches to analyse the effectiveness of past and present coastal management strategies. Mathew developed a rainfall-runoff model using the Australian Water Balance Model to examine discharge events to assist in the assessment of the impact of barrages. Mathew conducted several logistically challenging field trips with a team to wet-dry coastal floodplains including the Mary River and Glyde River to install and retrieve hydrodynamic scientific instruments. Engineering Data Analyst | Surface Hydrology of the Lower Mary River | Darwin, NTCDU was engaged by Byrne Consultants to compile and analyse past hydrological data of the Mary River Catchment to inform on coastal land management strategies and assist with barrage design requirements. Mathew compiled large hydrodynamic data sets and developed annual exceedance probability tables for flood events at Shady Camp Barrage and the Mary River Bridge (Arnhem Highway) based on over 50 years of data. He also worked in collaboration with senior research staff to critically analyse, report and present old and newly available data sets.Research Assistant | Adelaide River Off-stream Water Storage (AROWS) | Darwin, NTPower and Water Corporation (PWC) and CDU worked in collaboration to obtain hydrological and hydrodynamic data for the feasibility study of the AROWS Dam. Mathew was part of the team which installed and collected data logging equipment within the river and on the floodplain, preparing equipment and selecting optimal locations for data collection.
