  I have worked as a referee since 2015, officiating everything from the beginnings of kids hockey and adult recreational hockey, to men's junior and women's university hockey.Working as a hockey referee has taught me many valuable skills. It has taught me how to make decisions quickly and effectively, to work as a team, to work under pressure or adversity, and how to adequately deal with and resolve conflict and emotional situations.

  I work with younger and less experienced officials to improve their officiating skills. This can involve being on the ice with them giving real-time feedback, or watching from off the ice and giving feedback between periods. I also speak with them before and after the game. I use a combination of available resources and my own experiences to give these officials more tools to succeed. Finally, I submit a detailed written report in the days after the game, and a copy of which goes to the official so they can refer to the notes. Show less
