Freelance Designer since ‘04 Employed as Design Manager since 2012 Harrows Darts is the world’s largest manufacturer and exporter of darts. The Harrows brand is available in over one hundred countries. I am responsible for branding hundreds of unique products from concept and design for all artworks for printed packaging graphics. My flare for design is grounded on my talent for drawing. I have an in-depth understanding of producing artworks for all substrates that include metallic, transparent and box board. Product design and development is animportant aspect of my work. Maxon Cinema 4D and Red Shift to render texture to create highly realistic renders of new products and packaging Ideas. As a manufacturer and leading brand in it’s own right, Harrows also produces own-brand products for both global retail chains and licensed character brands. For this reason, two, five colour flexographic presses are kept running on-site to print and form dart flights. Editing and accurately converting customer supplied artworks for flexographic print is an important part of my job. I create highly detailed graphic design using special print finishes to embellish and enhance the brand to set us apart from emerging new brands.

May 2004 - 2009
Freelance Graphic Designer and Illustrator Nov ’02 – July ‘09 I provided an illustration service to publishing industry. My clients included Cambridge University Press, Scholastic, Pearson, the BBC. I provided print-ready illustrated layouts for educational textbooks to international and extremely specific briefs. For example: “Maria is eight, she is standing outside a typical Mexican primary school...”. The Search for the Shrunken Heads, a Ripley’s Believe It or Not book cover - foil embossed, process + spot colour and varnishes stands out as my most memorable project from that era.

This is a vast, American based global organisation, Level 3 Communications employed me to create corporate motion graphics for plasma screen displays on their high tech exhibition stands. I worked within a film unit that produced touch screen displays that were designed to sell secure server space to online businesses. I learned to use After Effects, but I was only working for a year and half when the Dot Com bubble burst and my department and several other UK based departments were rendered redundant as the company consolidated its global workforce. I enjoyed the work and was sorry when this job ended. I decided I would go it alone, freelance and pursue a career at what I believed, I was best at: illustration.

Graphic Designer

Aug 1999 - Mar 2001
I moved back to the UK in 1999* and immediately found work in the graphics department of a large exhibition design company that created show stands for worlds largest pharmaceutical organisations. The work was very different work from the tourist trade design work I was doing in Zimbabwe. Translating established corporate identities into fantastical 3D creations was the business of this very successful company. My work consisted of creating graphic design for trade exhibitions, lighting gobos, print collateral that included medical abstracts, questionnaires, and invitations to the launch of new products. Graphic designers at this time, were migrating to the more lucrative web design world. I learned to animate my vector illustration using Flash and looked for work where I could put my illustration skills to better use and flex my creativity in the motion graphics world of the web.
