Bio
Masaharu Hirayama
Max and I worked on software development for the Fermi Gamma-ray Space Telescope for the purpose of providing a comprehensive set of software tools for pulsar researches to the high-energy astrophysics community. He started working for the Fermi collaboration as a Ph.D. candidate to study gamma-ray pulsars, and quickly acquired essential knowledge and skills to develop software for the Fermi collaboration. He eventually developed and completed a Monte Carlo simulator of gamma-ray emissions from pulsars, which became a critical part of the software toolkit to study expected data quality, feasibility of data analysis for pulsar science, and validation of the data analysis tools for the Fermi space observatory. He asked excellent questions to understand definitions and conventions shared among the collaboration, and tailored his simulator to those requirements. His reports and requests are detailed and concrete. All of those indicate not only he is a team player who accommodates the needs of others, but also he is a solid scientist who enjoys challenges. It is no wonder that he became one of the key players for pulsar research in the Fermi collaboration.
