Collected and analyzed data over a span of 8 weeks as part of my research (honors) project at the Lyell McEwin Hospital. My research team and I collected data at three metropolitan hospitals in South Australia. Our research was on Drug-Induced Gastrointestinal Bleeds. At the end of my research, we wrote up a final report and an abstract. I presented the abstract at the APSA Conference in Adelaide. Worked two weeks in dispensary and four weeks in the Haemotology and Oncology department. In the first two weeks, I was trained to dispense medications for inpatients, outpatients and discharge patients. Also, while in the dispensary I got to provide counselling for non-prescription medications such as the teething gel as well as experience using EFTPOS payment. Besides that, I have also done audits on the previous year’s documents and produce a dispensing checklist flowchart. Furthermore, for the remainder of the four weeks I was up in the haemotology and oncology department. While I was up there, I followed the ward pharmacist on ward rounds along with a medical register, consultant and nurse. On ward rounds, I gained experience getting a comprehensive medication history from patients, providing discharge counselling to patients about their medications as well as conducting a clinical review and medicine reconciliation on each patient in the ward. Moreover, I was also exposed to outpatient clinic setting where most patients came in for their scheduled chemotherapy or follow-up blood reviews. I got to learn the different protocols that were followed for different cancer treatments as well as prepare a medication list for patients as a guide on how to take their medications. Show less

Worked as a student pharmacist in a busy community pharmacy that provides National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDDS) services, dose administration aid (Webster Packing), simple compounding and dispensing scripts. From this experience, I now have skills in dispensing medications (S4 & S8), giving advice on over the counter medications (S2 & S3), compounding as well as Webster packing.
