Mary Ellen is a beacon of leadership. She manages multiple educational children's programs for two -currently merging- nonprofits, Mill Street Loft Arts (MSL) and Spark Media Project, successfully. Her insight to distill current events into meaningful films and digital art projects for low-income students to create works of art, as Director of Education at Spark, and inspires her students’ self-esteem. I witnessed the students that I mentored in Spark’s DropTv internship tackle various forms of media with a vision employing self-advocacy from Mary Ellen’s guidance. And, she leads with a smile and brings levity at the office that makes all of us interns, colleagues, her staff, and students enjoy social justice as a fun, personal development. Her impact on me is that I see digital arts as a powerful tool for youth in the working-class bracket to use their voice to be heard.
