Mary epitomized the Along the Boards legacy when we reunited at FanSided in 2020. We had previously both been ATB section editors (she oversaw the NHL Metro Division beat, I oversaw the college page) in 2015-16, answering to founder and managing editor Jesse Connolly. Four years later, when she was running FanSided’s NHL section and I approached her with a freelance pitch, she made the finer points of the site’s customized WordPress dashboard easy to get a fast grip on, just as Jesse did with ATB’s. In addition, when editing and optimizing copy, Mary is appreciably conscientious about preserving a given writer’s voice. The only significant changes I noticed on my work were to strengthen the SEO meta description and raise the site’s tone therein. Outside of her practical skills and approach to work, Mary is also good for a range of fun conversation topics, especially if you are a sports or gaming enthusiast. Similarly, she was the one who established a fantasy hockey league for the ATB editing staff. Writer or editor, sports or pop culture, one-on-one business talk or casual Slack group chats, Mary is an ideal hire and colleague.

During my time with FanSided, I was the site's NHL Editor for the 2019-20 season. As the section editor, I was tasked with creating weekly content based around the current trends and events of the NHL season and overseeing a group of writers to carry out that plan into written content for the site. I was also given carte blanche in the entertainment and video game sections to contribute content as I saw fit. During my time with FanSided, I was the site's NHL Editor for the 2019-20 season. At The Athletic Philadelphia, I contributed to their Philadelphia Flyers coverage with freelance feature articles. From going to training camp, games, and practices, I regularly interviewed players and crafted stories based around the recent narratives of the team. I kept my hand on the pulse of the Flyers fanbase and reacted with stories based on points of interest. Managing Editor
-
May 2018 - Sep 2018
Managing and writing for the LA Valiant Wire was my first official step into the world of esports. With this site, I was able to write, curate, and maintain a website dedicated to news, analysis, and information on the Los Angeles Valiant, an Overwatch League team. I also managed a small team of writers who were dedicated to creating content on a daily basis for this site. Oct 2015 - Feb 2018
I covered breaking news in the world of hockey for SB Nation's NHL team. Throughout the season, I was watching and reporting on games live while putting up interesting and important content for the site. This job utilized various forms of social media such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, of which I had used to enhance the experience of my readers. I was also given the freedom to explore the sport and analyze topics big and small with as much gravitas or levity as I desire.

Digital Media Development Program
-
Jun 2015 - Sep 2015
During SB Nation's inaugural year of their development program, I was chosen as one of 12 aspiring journalists to take part in weekly webinars. The competitive program focused on improving our digital journalism skills in terms of content creation with a chance for a part time job down the line. I was named the MVP of the course, which then had me working for SB Nation proper.Through the summer program, I was imbedded with an existing SB Nation site and helped create content there through various homework assignments designed to teach us how to use digital media in our professional careers. Metropolitan Division Editor and Contributing Writer
-
Dec 2014 - Jun 2016
At Along The Boards, I was first a writer primarily covering the Philadelphia Flyers before moving to an editing role as the Metropolitan Division Editor. I was credentialed for a handful of Flyers games during the 2015-16 season as a senior writer for Along The Boards, splitting duties among my coworkers covering the team. Instead of focusing on game recaps, all of my work at Along The Boards was driven by narratives backed up by facts and analysis. As an editor, I controlled a team of writers in their daily duties while editing their work and the works of many others site wide. Show less

Short Form Content Curator
-
Feb 2015 - Sep 2015
At Broad Street Hockey, I collected short form content in the form of tweets, videos and more to create sharable posts for the website. Much of the work was for in-game content, as to share goals or big moments with Flyers fans almost as soon as they happened on the ice.
