      RESEARCH PROJECTCarry out my master degree project within the team pilEAUte, where I work on the primary clarifier of the 16 m3 pilot-scale treatment plant, and model the recovery of wastewater. The project mainly focuses on the biological processes in the activated sludge with special attention to pH dynamics, mixing and mass transfer related to chemical equilibria.TASKS INCLUDELaboratory experiments: - Titration tests, using Titrino device and a connected Sample Processor. - Validating and calibrating various sensors, including: s::can sensors (ammo::lyser and spectro::lyser), Hach sensors (Solitax, LDO, turbidity, and conductivity), and TresCon in the pilot wastewater plant. Using Spectrometer for chemical analysis of the wastewater samples as a validation step. - Designing an alkalinity dosage system to monitor the pH and the inlet alkalinity of the plant, to ensure better nitrification/denitrification in the downstream. - Performing various lab experiments on changing the normal operational condition in the pilot scale plant to perform AvN ratio in the reactors within the project involved with water utilities; DC Water and HRSD Co. - Assisting lab experiments for a project with Trojan Co., on turning the primary clarifier to a reactive settler within the formation of sludge blanket to enhance the fermentation and the production of carbon source and volatile fatty acids (VFA) in the inlet of the plant to improve nitrogen removal in the downstream.Modeling and Data analyses: - Using Buffer Capacity Model, implemented in an Excel-based program, to model the wastewater characterization.- Developing a titration model in PHREEQC, to model an aqueous system containing batch reactions, ion-exchange equilibrium, redox coupled/uncoupled reactions and irreversible reactions such as mixing solutions. - Using WEST modeling software to simulate different WWTPs, sewer systems and rivers.
