Family mentor

Oct 2020 - May 2021
This role is pivotal to our family support projects, it could be visiting children and their families at home, offering remote support through telephone, video chat or messaging or supporting our sessional activities. Our Family Support Mentors provide emotional and practical support to reduce family isolation and support them to find solutions to their issues. You could be talking to them about financial issues, how they are coping with children or talking through issues we all face in family life and friendly chat to reduce their isolation and loneliness. Happier Families runs a series of sessional based activities that help children and their families to access services in their community, reduce their isolation and learn new things. Family Support Mentors support the sessions with planning, delivery, and support; a friendly face. Feedback from my supervisor: The reason for closure will be that Mary’s family have reached all their goals in emotional, practical and financial support. The pathway for this family is now a positive one due to Mary’s continual and passionate support. Mary has supported this family on a weekly basis without fail and presented detailed diaries each week. Mary has signposted the family for support with financial difficulties and addressed any issue that she has been made aware of. Mary has ensured she has kept BRIC well informed of any concerns that she may have had regarding her family she is supporting. It has been a great pleasure to work with Mary and myself and the organisation will miss her and the incredible volunteering that she has done for families on behalf of BRIC. Show less
