Mary was a great pleasure to work for, I was truly inspired by her tremendous talents. I always enjoy working with people where I can learn something new, and I learned a great deal by watching Mary work hands on. and how she approached managing and directing artists efficiently. Mary's attention to detail, professionalism and positive energy made her one of my absolute favorite scenic and paint leads.

Darren Marsan

Mary's commitment, experience and expertise, humor and easy, personable nature makes her a delight to work with. Her hands on approach are a sign of her total dedication and creativity to each project. Mary always enhanced our existing team capabilities through her leadership and is well recognized to have brought tremendous value by consistently delivering valuable creative solutions to the many problem sets present at WDI. Passion for details, materials and for achieving deign objectives measured by her concern for her colleagues' make Mary a unique designer and a real treat for those who worked with her, I miss her. I would recommend Mary Blankenburg for any Design endeavor and look forward to collaborating with her on future projects.

I supervise and lead scenic paint crews to complete final finishes for themed park attractions. I translate the design intentions of creative directors into practical applications of color and texture. I guide my team toward accurately interpreting color boards, developing samples and applying final finishes to elements of stylized environments. One of four assistants, my specialty was color palette and surface treatments for all locations.I was integral in the design and fabrication of scenic plant material and soft goods for interior and exterior environments. I collaborated closely with model makers, scenic artists, set dressers, and riggers to project the film's conceptual style while supporting rigorous schedule and performance expectations.

ParaNorman feature film Lead Greens ArtistLed team of ten artisans in development and fabrication of all plant material in feature film. More than 1000 trees were produced for forested environments. Modern town and residential street sets required detailed landscaping including lawn, shrubs, flowers, and trees. Dynamic sculptures of special effect trees were developed by our team for Aggie’s tree and the burnt forest. I personally produced five duplicates of Aggie’s tree to represent various states of vitality and affect. Show less

My duties at Bent were varied. Because my skillset includes armature building, model-making and scenic painting I was an asset to the studio. My experience managing project crews, ordering supplies and meeting scheduled deadlines allowed me to fill in as Art Department Manager for a time while the existing manager explored directing. Predators of the Serengeti I was part of an eight-member team responsible for the sculpture of a life size Baobab tree. The trunk was sculpted concrete over a steel armature and the branches were fiberglass and epoxy sculpting putty over steel. In contrast to the tree, I built four aquarium style habitats for a scorpion, two spiders, and a toad using the same sculpting epoxy. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mermaid_Lagoon_(Tokyo_DisneySea)I supervised the building of interior and exterior scale models of Mermaid Lagoon for study and presentation. I met with architects, themed lighting designers, coordinated with set, lighting, f/x and sound designers to integrate all necessary elements into a themed environment (land) based on the Disney film The Little Mermaid. I directed foreign and domestic vendors in the sculpture of props, artificial foliage and themed architectural elements. I supervised and directed the installation of all show components on site in Japan for 15 months. I reported creatively to the Art Director. With regard to schedule and budgetary issues I reported to the Show Producer. Show less
