I had the pleasure of working with Mary on the Communications Committee for the Mountain Pacific Association of Colleges and Employers (MPACE). Mary is wonderful to collaborate with. She is extremely personable, helpful, dedicated, and creative. She put in many hours behind the scenes for this volunteer role, and as a result of her efforts, members of MPACE had access to fun, engaging, and informative social media content. Mary was always an enthusiastic contributor during our planning meetings, and is someone I knew would follow through with anything she committed to.

Mary is one of the most creative colleagues I have ever worked with. She is continuously trying to solve solutions with different ideas. She is very perceptive when assessing situations and knows when to jump in with her opinion or to have a different approach to bringing up a topic. Although I do not work with Mary directly in her capacity as a Career Coach, I highly value her opinion when working with her and appreciate the adaptability that she operates at. The way Mary is able to adjust to those around her and lead projects with conviction is a trait that I admire most about her and I am very lucky to work with her.

As the Assistant Director of Marketing, I develop a comprehensive marketing plan for the U of U Career Center each academic year and supervise one full-time Graphic Designer, one Social Media Intern, and one Video Intern. I collaborate with our Graphic Designer to manage multiple marketing projects at a time, including general office marketing initiatives, and specific marketing requests from our staff members. For each project, I strategize and plan the use of physical and digital marketing methods. I work closely with the University Marketing and Communications team to increase engagement with our office and events by getting our messaging out through larger channels. Some of the initiatives I implemented in the first six months of my position are: an academic and campus partner communication strategy, a student email campaign schedule, 3-month data reviews of all our digital channels, and a career fair cross-promotion strategy with employers. In my role as a Career Coach, my focus was helping students move from a place of fear and uncertainty to a place of confidence and excitement on their career journeys. I truly enjoyed helping students see how their unique strengths, life experiences, and interests could serve the world. Teaching them how to communicate their unique contribution through their job search or graduate school applications was extremely rewarding. My role developing students grew to hiring and supervising our first ever Social Media Intern. When I started in the center, we did not have a social media strategy. Now I facilitate our first ever Social Media Team, made up of 3 full-time staff members, and our Social Media Intern. I discovered a new passion for hiring, training and supervising, and look forward to finding new ways to develop this passion. One of the things I was most grateful for in this role was the flexibility to create something new, while also looking for ways to improve things that already exist. Each year in this role brought new opportunities to collaborate with faculty and staff to develop innovative career programming for students. One of my favorite projects was creating a 5 session series in the Explore Movement Science class where Health & Kinesiology students are exposed to the breadth of health careers available to them. They are asked to create a primary career plan and a secondary career plan at the end of the series, and I saw amazing improvements in the level of career preparation by the time students reached their senior year.
