Laurie Girard
Working alongside Mary for 5 years at Isaac Newton Academy and then another 3 years at Forest Gate Community school has been a pleasure. Mary is a gifted teacher, both caring and extremely organised. She treats everyone fairly and encourages everyone to try new things, innovate and thrive. Her ability to juggle all sorts of different jobs whilst remaining calm and positive is truly inspiring. Mary is a very hard-worker and always leads by example. She is without a doubt the best leader I ever had and that is why I followed her to another school!
Louise Bateman
Mary hired me as a French teacher and was my head of department and my mentor when I was in my NQT year at Forest Gate Community School. Mary proved to be an excellent mentor, extremely experienced and knowledgeable in teaching and learning practice, but importantly also personable and nurturing in her approach. It was under Mary that I was promoted to second in charge in the MFL dept and again I was grateful for her experience and guidance in developing the specific administrative and leadership skills required for this type of role. These were challenging times to work in teaching, with COVID disrupting learning followed hot on the heels by changes in the GCSE languages curriculum and examination papers. Throughout this period Mary showed not only what an outstanding languages teacher she is but what an incredibly resourceful and efficient manager she is, able to deal with the big issues of the day as well as the day-to-day running of a department. Mary is a first class linguist and dedicated teacher, but she has many transferable skills too. She is great with figures and is always solutions-focused. She likes nothing better than a challenge to get her teeth into. She grasps concepts quickly and is a creative thinker. She is great to socialise with too!
