He is a highly experienced consummate professional banker with widely developed credit skills applied in a commercially sensitive manner. He is a strong and highly visible leader with a passion for customers - he continually seeks ways of improving our customers' experience and has a strong record of delivering.He has a strong sense of humour and takes people with him. He cares very much about his people and has very strong levels of leadership and staff engagement scores evidenced from staff surveys. I secured my first "secondment" leadership role in RBS Invoice Finance and was looking for a Mentor, to help provide guidance and support on how to secure a permanent leadership role. My Regional Managing Director at the time introduced me to Martyn. I knew from my initial meeting that we'd get on like a house on fire. Martyn is personable, knowledgeable; insightful, constructively challenging, quite simply passionate about doing the right thing. I can't thank Martyn enough for the personal support he provided to me as we considered my strengths, development areas and personal development plan. Martyn shared his experiences and best practices during our regular meetings and I scribbled down notes to refer to and try out myself. I successfully secured a permanent leadership role and was bursting with pride when I told Martyn and each achievement in role thereafter. The fact that Martyn created time in his diary to support an aspiring female leader in business speaks volumes about Martyn's nature to help others. We are overdue a meeting and that's my fault, because I know I haven't completed the challenge Martyn set me last time we met!
