Powell Equipment Ltd was the Caterpillar dealer for Manitoba until Aug 2001 it was then taken over by Toromont.Commenced employment as field mechanic, then promoted to shop foreman where I worked closely with the service manager and assumed full responsibilities in his absence. In October 1991, the Powell Equipment, Brandon branch was downsized and restructured. All management positions in the service department were dissolved. The entire day to day operation of the repair shop was assumed by myself and another employee. Under minimal guidance from head office we were responsible to solicit customers, perform the repair, collect payment or arrange for financing and prepare the necessary service reports.

In 1997 Champion was purchased by Volvo Construction Equipment and in 2001 the first Volvo motor graders were introduced. In the assigned territory around Brandon and all southwestern Manitoba, I developed a satellite system similar to the ones in Ontario. My duties were:• Performing necessary repairs to all systems of a Champion Motor Grader• Providing complete parts sales• Soliciting work and maintaining excellent customer company relations• Attended various engine and machine service schoolsI operated out of my home, servicing municipalities and private contractors. The customer would contract myself personally to request service or parts. I was then responsible for scheduling my time. My equipment and tools were housed in a cube van in which I also organized a parts department.
