I was the senior marine and energy reinsurance claims broker from 2005 until I left in 2011. I ran the reinsurance claims broking team with emphasis on delivering market-leading customer service. • Processed and broked Marine, Energy and Composite Excess Loss and Retrocession claims from first advice to settlement. • Calculated and processed reinstatement premiums, interlocking clause, claims-related letters of credit. • Handled claims on complex reinsurance programmes, extensive use of ECF, Class, LORS, Elect. • Liaised with placing executives and support; compiled claims processing statistics for management. • Assisted placing brokers with reinsurance programme design, contract wordings, renewal statistics. • Mentored colleagues many of whom who were subsequently promoted. • Conducted claims review meetings with key clients. • Negotiated claims collecting commission for handling Lloyd’s and company run off claims. Complex claims case study: • 2005 Lloyd's syndicate excess loss reinsurance impacted by multiple cat losses; a composite, multi-layer, multi-broker placement incorporating Letters of Credit and an inter-class and currency Interlocking Clause; faced with impending recoverables exceeding US$100m and a daunting administrative burden, the syndicate approached JLT to assume sole claims handling responsibility for an additional fee. I devised and implemented a bespoke and unprecedented solution, offering the syndicate virtually immediate reimbursement for much of their Katrina and Rita reinsurance claims, thereby easing their cashflow concerns at a key time whilst mitigating LORS / Class reconciliation issues for both Atrium and reinsurers. Analytical skills: • Invited to conduct a review of a Lloyd's syndicate’s 2002-2009 reinsurance programme; validated accuracy of claim recoveries made and reinstatement premiums paid; identified and collected over USD1m in additional claim recoveries.
