      CustomerGauge is the leading SaaS provider of Monetized Net Promoter® and customer retention software. The Python team in CG takes care of the messaging services for the platform. Survey invitations and other communications get sent via E-mail, SMS, and WhatsApp. We focus on maximizing the deliverability of each message and following its status in a reliable, fast, and cost-effective way. We interact with several third-party messaging providers by using their APIs. All this logic is coded in Python and runs on AWS infrastructure. Our go-to services are Lambda, ECS, RDS, SQS, ElastiCache, SES, Route53, AppConfig, CodePipeline, etc. Building on the knowledge and experience of our predecessors, we moved from a collection of container-based services to Lambda functions. This gave us a significant cost reduction thanks to the irregular distribution of our workload over time. We moved our IaC from plain CloudFormation templates to CDK, which made it easier to read and refactor. We refactored our code to a hexagonal architecture. This move proved to make our code easier to reason about by keeping the interfaces to external services separate from our own logic. This also helped tremendously when the time came to change our email provider service, as those specifics were properly encapsulated in an adapter. Show less
