I collaborated with other research scientists to analyze microplastics from university students, industrial clients, and federal departments utilizing Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy. This work included preparing samples for analysis, conducting analysis using the FTIR instrument, performing a preliminary analysis of the spectra, and processing the spectra for the client. In addition, I created a template to automatically generate an Excel spreadsheet to present our findings to the client efficiently. I worked in accordance with the facility's ISO 17025:2017 certification. Show less

Sep 2022 - Sep 2022
The NWMO invited me to travel to Ignace, Ontario with their outreach team to speak with members of a potential host community to discuss my research on the safety case of creating a deep geological repository and answer any technical questions, and learn about the community benefits should they be selected. In addition, I met with the local indigenous community and their leaders, upon whose land the repository would be built, to discuss their relationship with the land and learn about their expectations for the respectful handling of nuclear waste.
