Martina was not blessed with the most positive childhood but to see how far she has come is truly a great story. For most of her adolescent life she was raised in the Pueblo of San Felipe a village 25 miles north of Albuquerque. Both of her parents were over taken by substance abuse which lead her mother to leave their home and the responsibility of raising her and 2 sisters with their father, who also dealt with substance abuse. He did his best to raise them but because of the alcohol it made it tough to truly be there for his daughters. Even with all of this adversity in her life Martina learned to work hard and to push herself so that her life could be better than how she was raised. She was very fortunate to attend a private christian high school where she worked very hard to graduate with a 3.8 gpa which lead her to receive the Gates Millennium Scholarship so that she could further her education. She took advantage of this opportunity and chose to attend Regis University where she graduated in May of 2018 making her the first of her immediate family to earn a college degree. Without the ability to work through adversity and the understanding of what it means to work hard, has made Martina into the person you see today. A roll model to her younger siblings, her community and to many other Native Americans that deal with life on the reservation. She has shown many that it doesn't matter where you come from just a long as you take advantage of opportunities and work hard proving that anything is possible. Martina is a very hard working person and will always do what it takes to learn what is required of her and to lead the best way she knows how, a true pillar in in the community.

July 8th, 2020 Chris Kehiayan Athletic Director Susan M. Duncan YMCA 6350 Eldridge St. Arvada, CO 80004 To Whom It May Concern, I am writing to highly recommend Martina Sandoval as a professional employee. I have known Martina for 3 years, and in that time she has consistently delivered high quality work and has been an important contribution to our programs. Martina first came to the Duncan Y as an intern, but her hard work and obvious dedication to youth sports rapidly earned her a permanent spot as one of our part time staff. As a part time Youth Sports Official, Martina quickly stood out from her peers for ability to take direction and carry out the procedures that were laid out for her. Additionally during that time, Martina showcased her incredible talent for being able to quickly adjust to the needs of the participants in our programs, finding ways to engage disinterested young athletes during practices and games. Because of her outstanding work ethic and her indisputable mastery of managing our youth sports programs, Martina was promoted to full time Sports Coordinator in the June of 2019. Since then she has worked under my direct supervision, and there is not single person who would be a better fit for the role. What astounds me most about Martina as an employee is her consistent effort to push herself. She constantly inquires on how she can take on more responsibility while managing her already full workload flawlessly. Martina takes charge of situations, so much so that I find myself frequently asking her to complete a task, only to find out that she already finished this objective and is already steps ahead in the next portion of our responsibilities. She has an uncanny skill in being perceptive and determining what customers and supervisors desire to see in her work ethic. I would recommend Martina for any position that she feels she would be able to carry out as I have the utmost faith that she would contribute quality work and nothing less. If you require any other additional information, you may contact me at ckehiayan@denverymca.org. Sincerely, Chris Kehiayan
